NEW LISTING
1978 Jaguar XJ6 Series II Sedan with a 350 Cubic Inch Chevy Engine
A lot of time, money and sweat equity has gone into restoring the car. I’ve owned it for 5 years.
It’s a 1978 Jaguar XJ-6L Series II sedan with a 350 cubic inch Chevy engine put in it sometime
in the 1990s. As I can determine, it spent most of its life outside in Sierra Vista. I purchased it in Bisbee in April, 2019. I have the title. The VIN is UJ2170218BW (this isn’t the original VIN, rather one referring to the Chevy engine?). I do not know the original VIN. I have no records of the car from 1978 to 2019, but I have complete records from 2019 up to the present. The car has been extensively modified so far as the engine is concerned and there are no records of those modifications.
Here’s what was done to the car since my ownership:
MECHANICALS:
— Desert Automotive in Sierra Vista went through the whole engine and drive train before I drove it back to Tempe.
— Engine thoroughly gone over again in 2022 and converted from fuel injection to carburation by Local Auto Service & Restoration (1985 E 5th Street, Tempe 85281).
— Two new gas tanks were installed in Bisbee; one by “Those Guys” and the other by “Desert AutomotiveCompany”.
— Known Issues: turn signals don’t work reliably and the AC is irregular (has new compressor, doesn’t leak – possibly needs R-134).
— All the mechanical work on the car has been done by S&CCC (Sports & Collector Car Company) and they have complete records.
INTERIOR:
— Installed a whole new interior – the interior was almost completely gone (dry rotted, torn-up, seats down to the springs, carpets gone or rotted. I had the whole interior replaced (seats, door panels, headliner, visors, center console, dashboard removed and resurfaced). All this was done by Doug Stinson (now Stitch Upholstery).
BODY:
— The car was painted in 2021/2 by Kelley’s Klassics in Mesa. The paint job was good, but not great (see photo).
— New windshield was installed due to extreme sand blasting.
— Tires and brakes are good.
— Two hub cap badges are missing as is the plastic ignition switch cover).
— The radio/cassette player and façade are original, but the radio doesn’t work (only picks up static). The aerial (antenna) is broken.
— The car was in an accident long ago, and the right front door doesn’t fit quite right and shows a noticeable gap between it and the body panel, resulting in a ¼” gap in the right front door when closed – very difficult to repair.
Price to be negotiated. If interested, please contact me at (480) 201-1297, or gaclark@asu.edu, and we can arrange – at our mutual convenience – to see the car and test drive it. The car will be parked in front of my house at 2025 E. Woodman Drive, Tempe, AZ 85283. Woodman Drive is a cul-de-sac just south of the intersection of Guadalupe and Country Club Way, halfway between McClintock and the 101 in southeast Tempe. I will be happy to answer any questions that might arise. If anyone is interested, we can try to negotiate a mutually acceptable price.
